Board member Mahad Makani asked for clarification about how AMI attendance would be recorded for pre‑K through eighth grade, noting concerns that returned packets could be marked complete without sufficient student effort. Superintendent Dr. Lathan and staff explained that teachers will make instructional judgments on returned packets, determining whether work reflects meaningful effort; school office staff will then record AMI attendance based on teacher input.
Board members said they were more comfortable with the plan after staff confirmed teacher discretion would determine pass/fail assessments for packet work and that procedures were in place for recording attendance. The motion to approve the AMI plan passed 7–0.
