Springfield R‑XII board approved change orders including $814,989 for Pipkin Middle School furnishings and a $74,500 line for access‑control work to make Reed project equipment compatible with districtwide Genetec systems; the board also approved relinquishment of five easements for Bingham and Bissett Elementary projects.
The board approved a slate of change orders and agreements and authorized staff to pursue relinquishment of five easements tied to upcoming elementary construction.
Sean Dilday, executive director of operations, described the largest line item as $814,989 for furnishings at Pipkin Middle School (cafeteria tables, desks, chairs and other building furnishings). He also explained a $74,500 change‑order line for access controls at the Reed project: the district has moved districtwide to Genetec access‑control systems and must add compatible equipment and software to previously budgeted projects so new and existing systems work together.
"We bid that project originally with the Infineas software. Now ... we went to Genetec with our new system districtwide," Dilday said, describing the need to add compatible Genetec equipment to the Reed building as part of change orders. Board members asked for clarification that the work had been anticipated in the budget and were told the scope shifted to a different vendor but remained within the planned access control budget line.
The board voted to approve the change orders and agreements (motion recorded as made by Board member Kinkade and seconded per transcript), and the motion passed by recorded vote (chair vote recorded and motion passed 7–0).
On easements, the board approved an application to relinquish five easements (a utility easement, two sidewalk easements, a drainage easement and an electric easement) related to Bingham and Bissett elementary construction so the district could "clean up the deeds" ahead of construction. The board authorized Sean Dilday to execute the required applications with the City of Springfield. The motion to approve the relinquishment was moved by Board member Provance, seconded by Board member Smart, and passed 7–0.
What’s next: Dilday said staff will return with final documentation on neighborhood sidewalk/shared‑cost easements and continue work on procurement and furnishings for Pipkin and Reed projects.
