Dr. Jim Kearney, administrative liaison to the government relations and communications committee, summarized recent legislative developments at the Oct. 21 meeting and said Radnor Township School District has not seen operational impacts so far. "There's no noticeable impact on operations here in Radnor Township School District," Kearney said, while noting the state budget impasse was at roughly its 113th day and the federal shutdown had continued into about its third week.
Kearney said materials from the Delaware County Intermediate Unit (DCIU) have been distributed to committee members and include these updates; he added that cuts at the U.S. Department of Education have affected offices including the Office of Special Education and Civil Rights. "All the laws governing special education ... are still applicable and on the books and guiding our work," he said.
Board members responded that Radnor's local fiscal position and tax receipts have insulated the district from the most acute disruptions other districts face. One member urged constituents to contact state legislators and cited Representative Lisa Borowski as already pressing for action. No formal motions or votes occurred on the legislative items during this meeting.
The committee did not direct staff to take additional formal action at this meeting; members asked staff to continue monitoring state and federal developments and return with any material changes.
