Radnor communications team outlines plan to meet DOJ digital‑accessibility deadline

Teji Brennan, a communications department leader for the Radnor Township School District, told the government relations and communications committee on Oct. 21, 2025, that the district will undertake a page‑by‑page audit of its website and other digital communications to meet Department of Justice updates to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act and applicable Web Content Accessibility Guidelines by April 2027. "Because of the size of our district, our deadline is April 2027," Brennan said, adding the work will be "a heavy lift" across the district.
Brennan said the department has started an internal audit to identify high‑priority remediation items such as adding alt text to photos, reducing reliance on inaccessible PDFs and improving site navigation so content works with assistive technologies. "We're going to assess the high traffic pages and prioritize those so anyone who's coming to our website is able to get the information they need," she said.
The communications team will train staff who have editing rights on the district site in basic accessibility practices and use a set of principles Brennan summarized as perceivable, operable, understandable and robust. She said the district will combine automated checkers with screen‑reader testing and, where feasible, hands‑on user testing. "Even after April 2027, we are going to continuously be monitoring and updating things," Brennan said.
Committee members asked whether the deadline or technical requirements were likely to change. Brennan replied that the April 2027 deadline for jurisdictions Radnor's size is fixed and that the department will track future updates. One board member noted a prior major website overhaul in 2017 and urged the district to make vendor compliance explicit in contracts and to seek reimbursement from vendors who fail to meet legal obligations.
The committee also discussed the scope of materials linked from the district site. Brennan said the Radnor Reader (the district newsletter) will need to meet accessibility obligations; she expressed uncertainty about independent PTO newsletters but agreed accessibility in those communications is a worthy goal. The communications office will coordinate with the English Learners (EL) department and technology staff to collect family feedback and to help families who experience translation or access problems.
The committee did not take any formal action at the meeting. The communications team said it will report back as the audit yields specific resource needs and timelines.
