Radnor enrollment largely stable at 3,546; Ithan project will prompt redistricting review

Mr. Bechtold presented the district’s annual enrollment review on Nov. 11, reporting total district enrollment of 3,546 students, a decline of slightly less than 1% compared with 2024–25. "We have 3,546 students, which is down slightly less than 1% from the previous year," Bechtold said.
By building: Ithan Elementary has 514 students (the second-highest Ithan enrollment in six years), Radnor Elementary is down to 544 (down 10), Wayne Elementary has 503 students (continuing a gradual decline), Radnor Middle School increased to 841 from 808 — the highest middle-school headcount in six years — driven by an incoming sixth-grade class of 310, and Radnor High School remained steady at 1,145.
Administrators reported 154 student withdrawals this year; the top stated reason was family relocation (88 families), while 26 students moved out of state and 26 left the country. The most frequent private-school destinations named were Haverford, Agnes and Notre Dame.
Administration and board members discussed how the upcoming Ithan elementary project and its expected move to out-for-bid status will prompt a review of space usage and possible redistricting. The district said it will recruit community volunteers to participate in redistricting planning as the project timeline progresses.
Next steps: administration will continue monitoring enrollment trends and examine the 10-year lookback and forecasting accuracy as the Ithan project advances; no redistricting plan was proposed or approved at this meeting.
