Town readies Recreational Trails Grant RFP, reports Mineral Road repairs and spring work

The committee reported progress on a planned application to the state Recreational Trails Grant and related planning work. Committee leadership said they have met with the Department of Environmental Protection and are drafting an RFP to hire consultants for surveying, design and outreach.
"Consultants will bid on it, and then they'll get back to us," the chair said, noting the RFP will be released after the New Year and that a typical bid window of about 45 days is anticipated. The process will include consultant interviews, surveying along routes, design plans and meetings with property owners to secure any necessary easements. The chair said the goal is to produce final plans so the town can move quickly when construction grants are available.
The committee also confirmed that most repairs on the Mineral Road segment of the trail are complete and that highway crews will perform spring cleanup and edge work. The committee discussed a realistic project timeline — survey work and permitting can extend the design phase to 18 months or longer — and asked volunteers to review draft RFP materials when available.
No vote was taken; committee members will receive RFP drafts for review and outreach assistance once the RFP is posted.
