Commission approves small pavilion for Winding Trails waterfront

The Inland Wetlands Commission on Jan. 6 approved an application to install a 12-by-16-foot pavilion at 50 Winding Trails Drive, a small shade structure intended for waterfront staff, lifeguards and camp counselors.

Scott Brown, the applicant, told the commission the pavilion is a ‘‘third small pavilion, 12 feet by 16 feet’’ similar to others already on the property and that fabrication is complete. He said the town-approved structure will provide shade and a place for first aid and to help staff track campers. Brown said construction is expected in early April once the ground thaws.

Commissioners asked no substantive questions and voiced support for the design and timing. With no objections raised, a motion to approve the application was made and seconded; the commission approved the permit by voice vote.

The pavilion will be installed without a concrete floor and will rest on four posts set into the sand, per the applicant’s submission. The commission did not attach additional conditions beyond standard permitting requirements. The applicant received best wishes from the chair as the item concluded.

The next procedural step is construction coordination with town staff before work begins.
