The Norwood Board of Selectmen on Feb. 24 tabled consideration of a public-safety staffing study and asked staff to schedule a dedicated meeting to finalize recommendations.
Town staff presented a draft memo with changes that reduce overall cost and prioritize staffing actions over the next five years; staff estimated the net impact for the average single-family homeowner could fall to about $94 per year (down from as much as roughly $120 in earlier estimates). The manager said the draft memo and a set of technical answers to board questions would be circulated ahead of a proposed special meeting, at which the public-safety chiefs and union representatives would be invited to respond to questions.
Selectman Plasco moved to table items 4.3 and 4.4 to allow for the special meeting and additional information; the motion passed unanimously, 4–0. Board members discussed using a workshop or single-purpose meeting format so the study can be reviewed without other agenda pressure and asked staff to circulate comparative salary and cost materials requested by Finance Committee members.
The board did not take a final vote on staffing levels or budget allocations and directed staff to prepare a packet of answers and updated fiscal estimates before the next session.
