At the public‑comment portion of the Sept. 10 Planning Commission meeting, resident Stephanie Colville described persistent smoke from smokers at 220 South Main (House of Barbecue) and urged the city to enforce the originally approved site plan and hours of operation.
Colville said she did not want to drive a business out of town but argued that “unlimited use is not fair to those of us that live there” and expressed concern about the effect on property values. Commission members and staff told her to document incidents through the city’s service‑ticket portal or via non‑emergency police reports; staff noted that service‑ticket submissions were routed to code enforcement. Staff also said code‑enforcement letters had been sent to properties identified as potential STRs or potential violations, but commissioners acknowledged the city’s enforcement capacity is limited by staffing.
Staff recommended residents use the city service portal to create a documented record; Commissioner(s) and staff explained photos and other documentary evidence are helpful because many online listings do not show full addresses.
Also during public comment, neighbor Bryn Bassacek provided a phone number she located for Airbnb’s neighborhood support (855‑635‑7754) and offered it as an additional resource for residents.
Ending: Staff said it will continue code‑enforcement follow‑up and advised residents to log complaints through the service portal so enforcement staff can investigate.
