Hartland conditionally approves operator license for Matthew McKenna pending March 19 background check

The Village of Hartland board approved the operator/bartender application for Matthew McKenna on Feb. 23 but conditioned issuance on a background check scheduled for March 19 and subsequent staff approval.
McKenna, participating by Zoom, acknowledged a prior OWI and said he had learned from the incident and sought work while applying for other jobs. Village President Jeff told McKenna the board’s customary policy following an OWI is to wait one year before issuing an operator’s permit but that the board could authorize staff to issue the license after a clean background check on March 19.
Jeff said staff would run a background check on March 19; police indicated those checks typically take one day to complete. The board voted to approve the application with the stated contingency and asked that staff notify McKenna once the check is finished and the license is issued.
