Representatives from the Council of State Governments (CSG) East described peer learning, the Eastern Leadership Academy and interstate assistance on health workforce and policy, and invited Vermont legislators to collaborate on regional training and shared models.
Representatives from the Council of State Governments (CSG) East met with the Vermont Senate Health & Welfare Committee on Feb. 25 to describe regional programs that could help states address workforce, coverage and rural policy challenges.
Tara Saad, a CSG regional staffer, and other CSG representatives outlined services including the Eastern Leadership Academy (ELA), technical assistance, and interstate peer matching to share policy options and implementation experience. Saad said the ELA provides multi‑day leadership training and that CSG can help states identify comparable programs and cross‑state solutions for licensure and workforce issues.
CSG highlighted opportunities for Vermont to tap regional networks for training and for sharing models such as state licensure approaches and hospital pricing reforms. Committee members said they would forward names of interested legislators and staff to CSG for follow‑up and welcomed CSG’s offer to provide research and convening support.
CSG also raised other regional priorities, including food insecurity and agricultural workforce aging, and suggested Vermont consider participation in regional working groups to exchange practices and training resources. The committee thanked CSG for the visit and said staff would pursue recommended follow‑ups.
