Summary
The Wapello County board approved a set of routine items including advertising for a county engineer, a sanitary landfill agreement, a sheriff contract amendment and personnel payroll changes; it approved a $500 community donation and tabled an Eldon Uptown Downtown request pending budget details.
The Wapello County board approved a bundle of routine agenda items and handled several personnel and contract matters during a regularly scheduled meeting.
Most immediately, the board voted to approve its agenda and to accept minutes from the Feb. 10, 2026 board meeting. The board approved advertising for a county engineer position, agreeing to use two versions of the announcement (a longer and a short print version) and to have applications routed through the supervisor’s office.
The board approved an amended agreement for operation and maintenance of the sanitary landfill that the DNR required as part of updates to the county comprehensive plan; the city involved had already approved the update. The board also approved an amended contract patrol arrangement with local cities, after a staff speaker said he had asked the cities for a 10% increase in payments to cover costs for roughly 60 hours of patrol per month.
On community funding, the board approved a $500 donation for the county’s Trout Fishing Day. A separate request from Eldon Uptown Downtown did not include a requested dollar amount; the board learned the last award in 2020 was $10,000 and voted to table that request until budget details are available.
Personnel actions included payroll approvals and staffing changes for the sheriff’s department and a vacancy in the jail; one employee last name discussed was Van Dorn. All motions described above were moved and seconded in meeting proceedings and carried by voice vote.
The meeting closed after the board voted to adjourn. Several items were informational only and will return to a future agenda as needed.
