The Commission on Diversity Awareness met Feb. 20 and approved a revised Women’s History Month proclamation that adds an explicit call to local action, approved last month’s minutes after a typographical correction and adjourned following routine reports.
The commission voted to approve the amended proclamation after discussing where to place a short "call to action" encouraging residents to take part in local events. Council Member House suggested text "to encourage citizens to learn about and reflect upon the contributions of women in our local community and beyond, and support and participate in programs, discussions, and events that honor women's history and promote continued progress," language the commission adopted.
Commissioners also moved to correct a misspelling in the draft minutes (noting 'submissioner' should read 'commissioner') and approved the corrected minutes by voice vote. The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn, which passed.
What’s next: the proclamation will be in effect for March observances and the commission will continue to coordinate participation and programming with community working groups.
