ECAP outlines Head Start, aging services and weatherization work serving Rexburg area

John Radford, executive director of the Eastern Idaho Community Action Partnership, briefed the council on ECAP services Aug. 21, highlighting Head Start programs, area agency on aging supports and a weatherization program that helps low-income households lower energy costs and improve safety.
Radford said ECAP runs Head Start across the valley and supports services for seniors (including meals on wheels and home care), family advocates, and a food pantry in Rexburg. He noted weatherization outcomes with a personal example: one relative reduced monthly utility costs from about $450 to roughly $150 after weatherization measures such as new windows and furnace work.
Radford also reported ECAP had secured a $250,000 grant to complete weatherization for roughly 14 homes this year, most of which will benefit elderly and disabled residents; the program includes roof repairs, plumbing and electrical upgrades, insulation and lead containment where needed.
What’s next: ECAP will continue local outreach about Head Start, food pantry hours and weatherization eligibility; the city indicated support for the agency’s regional services.
