Rexburg accepts $250,000 LTAC pedestrian-safety grant for Mill Hollow Road sidewalk

Rexburg City Council unanimously accepted a $250,000 LTAC pedestrian-safety grant on Jan. 15 to build a five-foot sidewalk along Mill Hollow Road.
Keith, a city public-works staff member, told the council the grant would replace the current painted stripe and provide a dedicated sidewalk that ties into existing sidewalks at 2nd South and the hospital. He said the project was chosen because several junior-high students walk that route and the grant application is due this month; staff estimated the grant would cover the project and that no significant local match would be required.
Council members asked whether the grant required a local match; staff said any match would be minimal (if any) and that the project was budgeted at about $250,000. Staff also said the sidewalk would be placed on the west side of the road and would be five feet wide.
A motion to accept the LTAC grant was moved and seconded and carried.
Staff will prepare project plans and submit required materials within the month. Construction timing will depend on grant terms and design but staff indicated the project would be scoped to fit the awarded funds.
