Marion County School Board approves Dr. Danielle Brewer as superintendent, effective Feb. 25

The Marion County School Board voted unanimously on Feb. 24 to approve an amended employment contract for Dr. Danielle Brewer, making her the district's superintendent effective Feb. 25, 2026, with a contract ending June 30, 2028.

Board attorney Jeremy Powers summarized the negotiated changes to the draft contract, saying the superintendent "believes the effective start date for the contract should be 02/25/2026" and that she requested an end date aligned to the district fiscal year of "06/30/2028." The chair offered an amended motion reflecting those dates; the board approved the motion by voice vote, 5-0.

The amendments addressed two timing items Powers described as operational and budgetary: an earlier-than-anticipated effective date and alignment of the superintendent's contract with the district's fiscal year to ensure complete annual data are available before future negotiations. Board members discussed the small budgetary difference of starting immediately versus later in the spring and concluded they were ready to move forward.

Following the vote, Chair Dr. Sarah James formally welcomed Dr. Brewer as superintendent. Brewer thanked the board and said she looked forward to continuing district work, noting current district events including Southeastern Youth Fair Week and Public Schools Week.

Next steps: Dr. Brewer will assume duties as superintendent beginning Feb. 25, 2026. The board did not record any additional conditions or amendments to the contract on the record beyond the amended start and end dates.
