Summary
The board approved ECCP/Start College Now applications (5 ECCP; 22 Start College Now, including 21 CNA applicants), multiple overnight student trips including a Galápagos science trip, and retirements for five staff, while trustees discussed the feasibility of offering a CNA course in‑house.
At its Feb. 17 meeting the Germantown School Board approved Early College Credit Program (ECCP) and Start College Now applications submitted by Germantown High School students and authorized multiple overnight travel requests and teacher retirements.
Curriculum staff reported five ECCP applications for college credit and 22 Start College Now applications for fall 2026–27; 21 of the latter were for the certified nursing assistant (CNA) program and one student applied for algebra/differential equations. "You're very close to that," a district staff member said when asked whether the district should consider offering CNA instruction in‑house if demand remains. Trustees discussed thresholds for running an in‑house program, instructor certification and the semester length of the CNA option (one semester), and asked administration to explore feasibility and statewide practice.
The board also approved overnight travel for multiple student groups: KMS FBLA (40 students) to the Dells, GHS DECA (19 students) to Lake Geneva, GHS SkillsUSA (18 students) to Madison, GHS Ice Fishing Club (15 students) to Stevens Point, Destination Imagination (40 students) to Sun Prairie, GHS FBLA (additional Green Bay trip), GHS powerlifting (state and national competitions, including Omaha), and a GHS science trip to the Galápagos Islands (17 students and three advisers).
In personnel action the board accepted retirement notices from five staff members effective at the end of the 2025–26 school year: Todd Schneider (30 years), Jamie/James Canestra (24 years), Lynn Collins (21 years), Kristen Dotings (25 years), and Thomas Wilcox (about 10–21 years in various roles). District staff thanked the retirees for a combined total of roughly 135 years of service.
A board member abstained from the ECCP/Start College Now vote due to a potential conflict (a student applicant). Administration said more data will be collected and the topic of whether to offer CNA coursework in‑house will be explored and brought back to the board if warranted.
