DEIB committee discusses subcommittees, outreach at school carnival and Applefest

At the Feb. 24 meeting Town of Northborough DEIB members proposed breaking into focused subcommittees to allow parallel work on accessibility, civic participation and community engagement.
Mary Alexandra Molina proposed three subcommittees (access & compliance; civic participation & representation; community engagement & belonging) and invited members to send ideas and draft agendas by the end of the week so the group can identify immediately actionable items. Deidra Ryding and Jim Kane said they had researched possible initiatives and volunteered to share initial drafts.
Members identified regular community events as outreach opportunities. Angie said the recreation office could secure a table at the end-of-school 'Be Well' carnival at Ellsworth McAfee Park and noted Applefest in the fall as another outreach occasion. Staff said the carnival date was tentative (mentions of June 23 and June 25 as candidate dates) and agreed to confirm scheduling with the recreation director. The committee agreed adding a recurring agenda item to track monthly community celebrations (for example, Women's History Month in March) would help coordinate department activities and public awareness.
The committee set its next meeting for March 24, 2026, and asked staff to circulate the March agenda in advance so members could prepare and propose subcommittee assignments.
