Summary
The board unanimously approved a proclamation recognizing March 2026 as School Social Work Week; lead social worker Jesse Caziano described social workers’ roles and a new snack-drawer program created with nutrition services to support students.
The Greeley Evans School District 6 board unanimously approved a proclamation recognizing March 2026 as School Social Work Week during its Feb. 23 meeting.
Vice President Bentley read the proclamation, citing the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act as context for the role school social workers play in educational settings. The proclamation outlines social workers’ responsibilities for assessments, interventions, counseling, family outreach, and community referrals.
Lead school social worker Jesse Caziano accepted the proclamation on behalf of district social workers and thanked the board. Caziano said social workers help create trusted spaces for students and described a district snack-drawer program that the nutrition department developed after learning some social workers were buying snacks for students out of pocket: “they put together a program, and now we have the snack drawer program within the school so that we can help provide nutritious snacks for our students.”
Board members offered brief praise for social workers’ support of students. The motion to adopt the proclamation carried 7-0.
Next steps: the proclamation recognizes social workers’ contributions for the month of March; the district will continue local efforts to coordinate mental health supports and student nutrition programs.
