The Wetumpka City Council approved a package of equipment purchases, repairs and an easement at its recent meeting while carrying several first-time items to the next agenda.
The council voted to approve the police department’s purchase of five vehicles for $289,717.89 and authorized $8,000 in repairs to fire apparatus engines 101 and 102 to address diesel-exhaust concerns. Council members also approved a renewal related to the Wetumpka Municipal Airport at a cost of $11,500. A separate request by staff for two new fire vehicles totaling $127,366.32 was described to council as a measure to keep mileage low so units can be cycled out before they are worn out.
A council member noted that the requested fire-apparatus repairs respond to National Fire Protection Association requirements for exhaust capture on older trucks. “That was the NFPA requires to capture the exhaust on the trucks,” said an official involved in the discussion, explaining the scope of the work and how it aligns with the department’s existing systems.
Council members also approved a stormwater (spillage) easement with Latunka LLC for property in the Rivertown area that staff said clarifies how runoff from an adjacent Tractor Supply property discharges into a city-owned pond; city attorneys recommended formalizing the easement to make the drainage arrangement explicit.
Several other procurement items were introduced as first-time agenda items and carried to the next meeting for additional consideration. These included change orders for a pickleball court expansion with alternate work (combined cost $540,625), the purchase of a 2026 skid steer with brush attachment ($133,595), and the acquisition of a marina drag ($9,400). Council also authorized surplus and sale of certain public works equipment at auction.
All motions taken during the meeting were approved by voice vote. No roll-call tallies or named mover/second records were provided in the transcript.
The council’s actions are intended to maintain public-safety readiness (police and fire fleet upkeep), clarify stormwater liabilities for a private property adjacent to a city pond, and advance several capital and equipment purchases pending further review. Items listed as first readings or first-time agenda entries will return to the council for final action.
