The Sequim City Council approved the consent agenda on Feb. 23, which included claim vouchers totaling $897,799.12 and the meeting minutes from Feb. 9, 2026.
Following that, councilors debated how to handle review of council compensation. One councilor said a salary commission "would be a very transparent and open way to handle the process" and a motion was introduced to direct staff to solicit applications for members of the council salary commission under SMC 2.48. The motion was seconded and the council voted by roll call: Councilor Burger, Councilor Butler, Councilor Temsland, Mayor Anderson, Councilor Jenise, Councilor Rutter and Deputy Mayor Hartman all voted in favor. The motion passed 7-0.
City staff said they will prepare and post the application and materials for the salary commission and return with results per the municipal code timetable.
What’s next: staff will post the application and accept submissions; council will consider applicants per SMC 2.48 and either establish a new salary schedule based on the commission’s recommendation or proceed per ordinance.
