The Town of Miami Lakes Public Safety Committee approved a free community shredding event, titled "Back to Nature," to be held April 18 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. near the farmers market at the Bull Run / Meadow Walk entrance.
Committee members discussed logistics including location (near Grama Park / the farmers market), volunteer support, and partnering organizations. ShredForce, which donated a shredding truck to the committee previously, will provide the truck for the event. Committee member Jorge Pena was named to coordinate the flyer and volunteer plan; the committee approved the event and associated coordination plans on the record.
The committee also confirmed a plan to present $500 donations to two organizations (the Love Fund and the local fire union) from car-show proceeds; finance must prepare checks and the group is coordinating a presentation for the council meeting on March 17. "We're giving each organization $500 from the car show proceeds," a committee member stated during the meeting.
Volunteers, including scouting organizations and student groups, were discussed for event support and traffic/pedestrian assistance. The committee requested staff notify Miami-Dade Solid Waste or other county resources if the event will include recycling information. The event will be promoted to bring additional traffic to the farmers market and provide shredding for residents' personal documents.
