Councilman requests update on new-construction septic permits, possible sewer connections

Toward the end of the Feb. 18 TEU Committee meeting, Councilman Carlucci asked staff to provide an update on septic-tank permitting in areas where failing septic systems are being remediated and where new construction is occurring.
Carlucci said he had spoken with a former council member and wanted to know how many newly permitted homes are using septic tanks, how close those areas are to sewer lines, whether those homes could be connected to the sewer system, and whether the areas are at risk of future failure. He suggested the matter could be addressed by JEA and Public Works and asked staff to bring an update to a future meeting.
Chair indicated he would work with JEA and relevant staff to arrange the briefing. No formal motion or directive was recorded beyond the request to schedule an informational update.
What’s next: Staff (JEA and Public Works) to be asked for an informational report on septic-tank permitting and connection feasibility; no funding or policy action was taken at this meeting.
