Support staff introduce roles, highlight wage concerns as contract talks continue

Support staff representing the district came forward during the reception of visitors to introduce their roles and describe daily responsibilities at Downers Grove North and South. Maria Georgio, Support Staff Association president, said support staff "bring a collective value to the operation of District 99," noting their roles span technology troubleshooting, health support, scheduling and logistics.
Several staff provided specifics: Joshua Margolis described his role in security and building oversight; Christine Christensen outlined administrative support functions and her role on the bargaining team; Kathleen Conquest, a data processor involved with master scheduling and driver education records, told the board the association believes "1 job should be enough" and cited compensation committee findings that "over 80% of our members don't make a livable wage." Other speakers described work in health services, CTE, job coaching, EL paraprofessional support and student registration.
Support staff thanked the board for continued consideration during negotiations and asked the board to keep compensation and workload concerns in mind as bargaining proceeds. The board listened and thanked presenters before moving into the evening’s agenda items.
