Volunteers, Woody Williams Foundation praised at Keizer meeting for state's first Gold Star Family Memorial Monument

Keizer — Tim and Donna Berry, representing the Woody Williams Foundation and the Gold Star Family Memorial Monument Committee, addressed the Keizer City Council on Feb. 17 to thank the city and local volunteers for supporting the installation of what they said is Oregon’s first Woody Williams Gold Star Family Memorial Monument.
"This is the first Woody Williams Gold Star Family Memorial Monument in the state of Oregon," Tim Berry told the council, noting there are 153 such monuments around the country and that the memorial provides a place for families who have lost service members to gather, remember and reflect.
Berry and other speakers described the monument’s siting at PFC Ryan J. Hill Memorial Park in Keizer Station, praised designer Adam Brown and volunteers for the installation, and said the Woody Williams Foundation called it one of the smoothest installs they had seen. Community members and councilors expressed appreciation for the project and said they hoped the monument would remain a place of remembrance for Gold Star families.
The council acknowledged the project’s community collaboration and thanked the committee, volunteers and staff members who supported the installation.
