Keizer — The Keizer City Council on Feb. 17 voted to table consideration of a proposed police services fee until after a scheduled March 7 work session on the police task force's report.
Assistant City Manager Tim Wood told council the task force completed its work but that councilors had not yet had the opportunity to review the findings together. Council President Shaney Starr, chair of the task force, praised staff for compiling the report and recommended placing it prominently on the city's website and pushing the link on social media and the police department’s Facebook page so residents can review the material before the work session.
Starr and other council members emphasized the value of hearing the report and suggested a meeting format that begins with staff presentation followed by a public‑comment period to make sure attendees get the same baseline of information before asking questions. "I concur with the staff recommendation to put this, to table this topic until after our work session," Starr said.
Councilor Koehler moved to table the police services fee discussion until after the March 7 work session; the motion passed unanimously with two councilors absent.
Next steps: staff will post the task‑force report and meeting videos on the city website and social media; the March 7 work session will present the report and provide an opportunity for public comment following the staff presentation.
