Roseville approves $20,000 fireworks contract for RoseFest; council asks parks to continue drone-show study

Roseville City Council voted unanimously Feb. 23 to approve a $20,000 contract with J & M Display to provide the fireworks display for the RoseFest Party in the Park on June 27, 2026.
Councilmember Restron had asked that item 10f be pulled from consent to allow discussion about alternatives for residents sensitive to loud fireworks, such as a drone show. Parks and Recreation Director Matt Johnson said city staff review alternatives annually and estimated a drone show would cost roughly $60,000, although one neighboring city is testing a lower‑cost model. Johnson also noted some communities have reported poor results with drone productions; staff will continue to monitor developments.
Councilmember Bridal thanked colleagues for raising the issue and urged study before making any multi-year changes. Council approved the fireworks contract 4–0.
