Norwalk Cove Marina cleared to repair bulkhead, bring electrical up to FEMA standards

The Planning & Zoning Commission approved a coastal site plan for Norwalk Cove Marina allowing replacement of a deteriorated bulkhead, relocation of utilities to meet FEMA standards and construction of a pedestrian boardwalk.
Tim DeBartolomeo of Sound Engineering Associates said the project will replace roughly 158 feet of failed wall and install a new anchor system and transformer pad; "it's the repair of the wall, and installation of utilities," he said, and added the team already has permits from Connecticut DEEP and the Army Corps. He said the work will be performed with land-based equipment and that materials and contractors are ready to mobilize.
Staff confirmed the harbor management commission found the project consistent with its harbor plan and that coastal site plan review is required for shoreline flood and erosion-control structures. Commissioners moved and approved the draft resolution with standard conditions; the resolution passed by roll call.
