Depew trustees approve retirements, permits and training; battery-storage hearing moved to March 9

The Village of Depew Board of Trustees met Feb. 23 and voted on several routine matters while postponing a public hearing on a proposed local law regulating battery energy storage systems.
Trustees voted to accept the retirement of Mark Musilak, a Recreation Department laborer, effective March 6, 2026. The motion was moved and seconded and carried on a roll-call vote recorded as "yes" by the trustees and the mayor. "Mark's a great employee," one board member said during the discussion.
The board unanimously approved waiving a temporary sign-permit fee for Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament School, 20 French Road, to allow promotion of Lent fish-fry events run by the school/Parish. The resolution names the school and Saint Martha's Parish as the beneficiaries of the waiver.
Trustees also approved the Auctions International online-auction results for the fire department (ending Feb. 16), accepting proceeds of $520 for a lot of matching polyurethane foam stacked chairs.
Permission was granted for Ladder 5 of the Depew Volunteer Fire Department to travel to the Erie County Fire Academy for firefighter training on Feb. 23 (7:30–10:00 p.m.) and March 8 (8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.). The board moved and seconded the training request and carried the motion.
On finance, the claims and accounts audited by the finance committee were approved as presented: General Fund $323,036.00; Community Development/Sewer $681.93; Capital Projects $19,022.50; for a total of $342,740.43.
The scheduled public hearing on "Local Law No. 1 — Battery Energy Storage System Law" was formally tabled. Deputy Mayor Adolph moved to postpone the hearing; the board agreed to reconvene the public hearing on March 9 at 7 p.m. in Municipal Hall council chambers. "We'll table it and postpone it until the next Village Board meeting, which is March 9," the deputy mayor said.
The meeting closed after department reports and routine announcements, with trustees noting public-works and recreation updates and an award from the American Public Works Association. The board adjourned at 7:53 p.m.
