Sandoval County approves new dispatch supervisor position, freezes two dispatcher FTEs

The Sandoval County Board of County Commissioners on an unanimous voice roll call approved creating one additional supervisor position for the county dispatch center and ordered two vacant dispatcher positions frozen to cover the cost.
Director Fox, the county’s dispatch director, asked the commission “for a motion of approval for the creation of 1 additional supervisor position for the PSEC,” saying the change responds to recent staffing-data reviews and shift-schedule needs. “To cover this cost, we’re gonna be freezing 2 vacant dispatcher positions so it doesn't have an impact on our budget,” Fox said.
Fox told commissioners the new supervisor is intended to provide relief coverage for lunches, breaks and vacations and to assist with training obligations tied to state certifications. She said the dispatch center initially had four supervisors and the workload made a fifth necessary: “When we began, we started with 4 supervisors, and it became apparent that we needed 5 to help with relief on lunches, breaks, and for vacations if they're out sick.”
Commissioner Jones asked how freezing two dispatcher FTEs differs from creating the supervisor role and when the frozen positions might be reactivated. Fox answered the supervisor is a higher-paid classification and that freezing the two dispatcher positions frees funds to pay the new supervisor; she said the frozen positions would likely remain inactive until the next fiscal-year budget.
Fox also updated the commission on facility equipment, saying the permanent generator had been delayed earlier but was now on site and had been tested; she said a PNAM appointment is required to complete the power changeover.
Madam Clerk conducted a roll call on the motion; Chair Juarez, Vice Chair (recorded as Hurst), Commissioner Jones, Commissioner Brook and Commissioner Meek each answered “Yes” and the motion passed.
The commission did not set a specific date for reactivating the frozen dispatcher positions; Fox said that would be considered during next year’s budget process.
