District staff and Synergistic presenters said verified operational savings exceeded $430,000 in year one and reported a roughly 21.6% reduction in energy-use intensity; several schools have received or are pursuing Energy Star awards, and staff outlined audits and automated scheduling work.
Snowline Joint Unified officials and their energy-management partner, Synergistic, told the board the district realized verified first-year savings of a little over $430,000 after adjusting for weather, utility rates and other factors.
Synergistic presenters said the district reduced its energy-use intensity by about 21.6 percent and emphasized the operational work behind that achievement: more than 1,100 site audits, interval-utility-data management, water conservation steps, HVAC and EMS optimization, and regular coordination with custodians and maintenance teams. The presentation singled out Edson Perez, identified as the energy specialist, for frequent site work and auditing.
On the Energy Star program, presenters said schools must be in the top 25 percent of similar buildings by energy use to qualify. The team reported several Energy Star recognitions for Snowline schools, listing Heritage, Felix, Serrano, Vista Verde, Pinion Hills and others, with reported site scores as high as 99 and the lowest cited at 92.
Board members asked technical questions about notification and troubleshooting when systems (HVAC or lighting) failed to shut down after hours. Synergistic staff said many issues are scheduling or EMS configuration problems that can be adjusted; where the firm cannot directly control a problem, they work with the district’s maintenance staff and contractors to identify and fix the cause.
The presenters framed the savings as operational rather than capital-only gains — the result of auditing, schedule tweaks and EMS optimization — and described plans to continue Energy Star submissions and further audits.
