The commission adopted an ordinance amending Chapter 2-56 of the city code to repeal the existing parking-permit framework and passed a companion resolution establishing new citywide parking rates for interior garages and beachside parking. City Manager explained the changes as a package: the ordinance repeals prior permit and decal rules and the resolution sets the new rates, which the city manager said "will go into effect 08/01/2024." Resident rates will remain the same for anyone with a valid resident ID, and obtaining a resident decal requires presentation of a resident ID.
The ordinance cleared second reading and commissioners voted to adopt it; the companion resolution establishing rates was then approved. No public speakers addressed the item and staff characterized the package as aligning Sunny Isles Beach rates with comparable nearby jurisdictions.
