Jared Lin, director general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta, addressed the Alabama House during a floor recognition on Feb. 24, praising economic and educational ties between Taiwan and the state.
Lin described HJR50 as an affirmation of the relationship between Alabama and Taiwan, noting shared values of democracy, peace and prosperity. He highlighted Taiwan's role in global supply chains and growing investment in sectors such as semiconductors, energy innovation and artificial intelligence, and he invited members to a March 4 reception at the Alabama Department of Archives and History featuring a documentary on Taiwan's semiconductor development.
"Taiwan is an important market for Alabama export, and our economic relationship continues to expand," Lin told the House. He said cultural and educational programs such as the Taiwan Center at Auburn University and Mandarin-learning initiatives are part of deeper ties that bring business and people-to-people exchanges.
The House recognized the delegation and extended floor privileges to the visiting Taipei representatives. The invitation to the March 4 event was extended publicly during the address.
