Trustees hear liaison reports on affordable housing projects, comp plan outreach and public-art committee

Trustees received a set of liaison reports from planning and committee liaisons covering long-range planning, affordable housing and public art.

The planning liaison reported that the Affordable Housing Task Force has resumed work with a development partner on three potential projects (Cedar Street, 99 Cedar Street and two adjacent lots on Cedar) and that zoning discussions are expected soon. The comp plan committee described recent reviews of EI districts (large properties around the village) and work on a villagewide pathway network; trustees were told a community outreach event with maps and drawings will be scheduled in January.

Deputy Mayor Galen and other trustees discussed formation of a public art committee and the committee’s potential mandate; Galen said the village hopes New York Forward and a county downtown improvement grant could support public art installations and help implement a public-art component of an existing downtown grant.

Other liaison items included Friends of the Waterfront plans for a 9/11 memorial in the spring and coordination with senior volunteers on gardening projects, and discussion of pickleball parking options (station depot preferred parking suggested) if a grant for courts is secured.
