City orders all-abilities section for West Canyon Playground; staff says installation due in October

Leisure Services staff told the City Council on Feb. 14 that the all-abilities section for West Canyon Playground has been ordered and is scheduled to arrive in October.
Staff (Kenny) described pour-in-place surfacing and accessible elements such as a covered-wagon glider positioned to allow wheelchair access from adjacent sidewalks. The feature set includes 33 all-abilities elements and is the city’s second playground to include a full all-abilities section. The playground and surface come with multi-year warranties; the surface is warrantied for 20 years and playground equipment for 25 years, per staff.
Staff said the project is funded and requires no immediate council action. Council members discussed parking expansion options near the senior center and noted that removing an older playground would create space for additional parking when funding allows.
What happens next: Staff will proceed with installation when the equipment arrives in October and will continue conversations about concurrent parking improvements as a separate budgetary item.
