Superintendent reported the district completed most recommended safety enhancements after the Manor High incident and that a Texas Education Agency vulnerability assessment identified 81 findings; remaining items tied to bond funding are expected to be nearly complete by March 13.
At the Feb. 23 board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Sarmani updated trustees on safety work across the district, saying teams have completed all recommended tasks that did not require bond funding and that the district has deployed a new-generation weapons detection system at Manor High School and Manor New Tech High School.
He also said the Texas Education Agency completed a district vulnerability assessment in December and reported 81 findings out of thousands of possible checks; district staff said they have been addressing items and expect most to be completed by March 13. "We have done every single one of those recommendations has been completed except for those needing bond money," he said.
Trustees and staff acknowledged the work of maintenance, construction, transportation and police staff in implementing safety changes, and administration thanked those teams for rapid responses during weather-related transportation challenges earlier in the academic year.
The superintendent said that, with some equipment and other projects awaiting bond funds, the district will prioritize projects that reduce risk and then address other deferred maintenance as funding allows. No new safety-related votes were taken at the meeting; trustees listened to the update and asked clarifying questions about timelines and ongoing monitoring.
