The Village Board unanimously endorsed the Climate Smart Communities Task Force's annual progress report on Jan. 27, a document the task force said is organized to match the Climate Smart Communities certification framework.
Janet Rosa, the task force coordinator, highlighted the DPW rooftop solar array (described as 250 kilowatt capacity and roughly five times prior capacity), an anticipated $45,000 annual savings the village could earmark for sustainability initiatives, and grants including a $4.5 million downtown grant referenced in the report. The task force described goals for 2026 that include resuming annual energy benchmarking (which the village has not posted since 2020), raising the municipal recycling rate (which fell to 49% in 2024), and improving messaging and knowledge management. The task force proposed vetting consultants and exploring regional support from the Hudson Valley Regional Council to help with benchmarking.
Trustees thanked the task force for the report and noted its recommendations can inform the upcoming budget process; the board moved to endorse the report with a unanimous vote.
