Monroe students showcase science fair projects; board recognizes varsity competition cheer team

The Monroe Local School Board opened its Feb. 23 meeting with recognition of elementary science fair winners and a presentation by the varsity competition cheer coach.
Student presentations: students from fourth, fifth and sixth grades described small experiments conducted outside of school. A sixth-grade team tested how temperature affects bouncy-ball bounce height, recording three trials per condition and concluding heat increased bounce height. Other projects included an ice-melt comparison of salt, sugar, baking soda and cayenne (averages reported in milliliters), chewing-gum bubble-size comparisons and an efficiency comparison of competitive swimming strokes. Board members praised the students' presentations and urged a group picture and public recognition.
Cheer recognition: Tiffany Trout, the head varsity competition coach, summarized the season, noting wins at Edgewood and success at OHSCCA and SWBL competitions; the team earned a bid to nationals in Florida and includes 24 athletes in grades 9'12. Trout emphasized student commitment to academics and athletics and called out coaches and staff for support.
