NURSE Corps staff walk new scholars through account setup, ISV rules and enrollment obligations

Summary
HRSA’s NURSE Corps Scholarship Program told newly selected scholars how to use the MyBHW portal, submit in‑school verifications (ISVs) each term, and what triggers a breach of contract, including enrollment changes that can stop stipend and tuition payments.
Melissa Lewis, division director for the program, opened the webinar by congratulating recipients and noting the NURSE Corps Scholarship Program received more than 3,300 applications this year and funded roughly 360 new awards. "The NURSE Corps, including the NURSE Corps scholarship program, continues to operate using previously appropriated funds," Lewis said, while warning that a Department of Health and Human Services shutdown may slow day‑to‑day responses.
Karen Bourgeois, a program staffer, gave detailed instructions for account setup and ongoing responsibilities. She said participants must use MyBHW—the same portal used for applications—to communicate with assigned analysts, upload documents, and keep contact and banking information current. "Make sure myBHW account stays up to date by clicking my contact information," Bourgeois said.
Bourgeois emphasized in‑school verification (ISV) as a recurring compliance requirement. Participants must complete an ISV in MyBHW each academic term by uploading an updated unofficial transcript and any other requested documentation; the program will not process tuition invoices or stipend payments for terms with missing ISVs. "Participants who fail to comply and submit the ISV . . . each academic term will not receive their scholarship and stipend payment," Bourgeois said, and warned that unresolved noncompliance can result in a breach of contract and potential default requiring repayment of funds plus interest and penalties.
The webinar also covered enrollment changes that affect eligibility: moving from full‑time to part‑time status, repeated coursework, approved leaves of absence, voluntary withdrawal, dismissal, or transferring to another institution. Bourgeois said transfers must be approved in advance and that Nurse Corps awards are based on the cost at the initial academic institute; the program will not cover increases in tuition at a new school, leaving participants responsible for any difference.
The session closed with reminders to use the portal for official submissions, to notify analysts promptly of enrollment or academic‑status changes, and to consult the program guidance included in the welcome kit for additional details. Bourgeois pointed participants to HRSA resources for further help and noted the webinar will be recorded and distributed by email.
