Emily Carlisle Agarwal, part of the Nurse Corps scholarship monitoring and transition team, walked attendees through an advanced search on connector.hrsa.gov, advising scholars to run separate searches for primary-care and mental-health HPSA scores of 14 to 25 to yield the most results. Using a sample search centered on Cleveland, Mississippi (zip 38732), she showed results that returned Bolivar Medical Center as a site with a primary-care HPSA score of 23 and explained how to view the site page to find contact details and a site point of contact.
Emily also demonstrated the HPSA lookup by address, using Presque Isle Rehab and Nursing Center (162 Academy Street, 04769) as an example. She said that tool showed a mental-health HPSA of 15 for that address and noted that some sites display a facility HPSA (a higher facility-wide score) versus a geolocated score tied to an individual address. She warned that an HPSA score can be "proposed for withdrawal," and that changes to scores can remove a site's eligibility if the withdrawal occurs before a scholar locks in the score with their employment support analyst.
Presenters emphasized process: after applying and being contacted for interview, scholars should reach out to their employment support analyst to verify site eligibility; the Connector result alone does not replace analyst verification. Emily noted that connector listings may show "0 job opportunities" while the site posts openings elsewhere, so scholars should also visit a site's careers page and then notify their analyst if an interview is scheduled.
The demonstration included practical tips on filters (exclude dental HPSAs, select facility HPSAs for Federally Qualified Health Centers) and examples of how facility HPSA scores aggregate across multiple locations. HRSA staff said they will post links in the webinar chat and share the recording by email.
