Summary
The Iowa Advisory Committee voted May 30 to hold a fourth web briefing to collect targeted data, hear additional witnesses (including researchers and youth), and refine the committee’s forthcoming report to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.
At the end of its May 30 meeting, the Iowa Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights approved a motion to hold a fourth web briefing to collect further quantitative data and testimony on access to mental and behavioral health care for K–12 students.
Committee member Stephanie Munsterman moved to schedule another briefing; Donald Roth seconded. The motion carried after members voiced their support. Chair Henry Hamilton III said staff will poll members on availability and pursue outreach to potential panelists, with mid‑July suggested as a likely timeframe.
Anna Victoria Fortes, the committee’s designated federal official, said staff will circulate a Doodle/poll, update the committee web page with slides and the transcript from this briefing, and invite members to submit suggested speakers and written questions in advance to make the next briefing more targeted and data-driven.
The committee directed staff to prioritize testimony and data that quantify service gaps, utilization by demographic group, and the distribution of therapeutic classrooms and providers across the state. The fourth briefing is intended to fill evidence gaps the members said are necessary to form findings and recommendations for the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.
