Board unanimously backs Summit County Children's Services levy renewal

The Akron Public School Board voted unanimously on Sept. 23 to endorse a Summit County Children's Services levy renewal that will appear on the Nov. 5 ballot.
Mallory McConnell, who identified herself as representing the county children's services agency, told the board the levy "provides 60% of our operating budget" and described service levels (the agency said it served about 9,767 children last year). She characterized the item as a renewal, not a tax increase, and urged board endorsement and community support.
Mr. Perry moved the supporting resolution and Vice President Jackson seconded. The board heard brief comments of thanks and concern, then voted by roll call: seven yes, zero no. The district will receive the endorsement as a formal resolution in its minutes and McConnell offered materials for the board to review.
Board members said the agency's work is critical to families in the district and thanked staff and volunteers who assist students in crisis.
