CRA approves two property improvement grants for downtown and beach condominiums

The Hollywood CRA approved two property improvement grants during its July 3 meeting.
A $75,000 grant was approved for Barclay Arms condominium at 1943 Monroe Street toward an estimated $175,000 exterior renovation that includes painting, stucco repair, parking lot milling and resurfacing and new decorative railings. Project manager Chris Crisitto said the $75,000 grant represents roughly 43% of the project cost.
For Aquarius Condominium at 2751 South Ocean Drive staff presented a larger renovation package of about $1.8 million covering concrete restoration, parapet and waterproofing work and new beach access stairs. The CRA approved a $75,000 grant, approximately 4% of the total project. Commissioner Biederman declared a perceived conflict of interest on advice of the city attorney because his business does work for the Aquarius Condominium; he stepped down from the dais and was recorded as abstaining for Item 9.
Both grants were approved by the board (Barclay Arms: unanimous; Aquarius: approved with the recorded abstention). Staff noted the grants are intended to improve building resilience and neighborhood appearance and said the property owners plan future impact‑window purchases or bulk buy programs to further improve resiliency.
The resolutions passed on voice vote; staff will follow up with standard grant execution steps and permit coordination.
