The Belton ISD Board of Trustees adopted a resolution Tuesday evening to nominate state Representative Hugh Shine as the district's candidate to serve on the Bell County Appraisal District board of directors.
Dr. Golden, speaking for the board during the item, told trustees that a change in state law requires taxing units to nominate one candidate to the appraisal district board. "Due to a change in law during the Texas Legislature, the district is now required to nominate one candidate to the tax appraisal district board of directors to serve at least a one-year term beginning 01/01/2025," Dr. Golden said, citing Texas Tax Code §6.03.
The board's presiding official asked for a motion to adopt the resolution; a motion/second was recorded on the floor but the transcript does not unambiguously identify who moved or seconded. After a voice vote, the presiding official announced, "That passes 7 to 0."
