The board opened its Nov. 4 meeting with a presentation by Buchtel AFJROTC cadets and instructors after the unit received the highest possible inspection rating.
Master Sergeant Albert Desaro Jr. and lieutenant colonel leadership credited the cadet corps for earning an "exceed standards" rating in a unit evaluation inspection. "The Bookdo Air Force JROTC program came out with the highest rating that can possibly be given to a school, which was an exceed standards in all facets of compliance and policies and procedures," the instructor said.
Cadet Major Delancia Brown, Cadet Captain Woods, Cadet Master Sergeant Humbert and a first-year cadet described student-led operations, the unit's community-service achievements (more than 750 service hours in a school year and approaching 850 for distinguished-unit consideration), and the leadership opportunities JROTC provides. Board members praised the students and asked about college and military career plans; Brown said she intends to pursue Air Force ROTC in college.
The board applauded the cadets and thanked instructors for student leadership development. No board action was required.
