Pickens County approves multi‑year maintenance contracts for seven water tanks

The Pickens County Board on July 15 approved individual maintenance contracts for seven county water tanks with American Tank Maintenance, voting separately on each contract because costs and tank types vary by site.

The board approved contracts for the Highway 53 tank (30,000 gallons; years 1–3 at $1,989/year), Henderson Mountain tank (120,000 gallons; years 1–3 at $1,989/year), Tape Tank (500,000‑gallon elevated tank; years 1–5 at $53,907/year and years 6–8 at $22,877/year), Sequoia Mountain (300,000 gallons; early years at approximately $32,943/year), Hill City (300,000 gallons; early years roughly $32,007.31/year), Glitter Tank (500,000‑gallon concrete; years 1–5 at $14,227/year) and the largest Churchyard tank (1,000,000‑gallon concrete standpipe; years 1–5 at $24,271/year). In each case a motion and second were recorded and the board approved the contracts by voice vote.

The contracts contain staged rates with lower annual fees after the initial years to reflect reductions once initial work is completed. Planning staff said individual contracts allow the county to take a tank offline or replace one without amending an umbrella agreement.

The board directed staff to proceed with contract execution and to share updates if a tank is taken offline or replaced.
