Committee confirms scholarships, youth programming and plans for public-arts communications

The Middleton Arts Committee confirmed arrangements for scholarships, youth-center art programming and a communications push ahead of upcoming public-art events.

Members reiterated the committee’s prior vote to award two $1,000 scholarships to local art students and noted the award ceremony is scheduled for May 15 at the Middleton Performing Arts Center. “We last time voted to do 2 $1,000 scholarships for art students,” said Unidentified Speaker 1.

Unidentified Speaker 5 said Meg will present the public-art plan and proposed art corridors to the Middleton Plan Commission on April 9 to generate broader awareness. The committee also discussed youth-center programming: Julia will serve as cartoonist for April and May sessions (now held on the first Thursday of the month) and the group agreed to coordinate volunteer support as the youth-center director position will change at the end of the school year.

For communications, members debated using the city’s public-arts webpage (cityofmiddleton.us/publicarts) versus creating a dedicated Arts Committee social-media account. Several volunteers offered to create and schedule posts and to meet after Art Walk to establish social-media responsibilities and a posting calendar.
