Currituck County Schools celebrate CTE Month and honor regional technology director

Jennifer Woods, Currituck County Schools’ CTE lead, told the board at its Feb. 19 meeting that students in the district’s Career and Technical Education programs earned 1,161 industry-recognized credentials during the 2024–25 school year, including OSHA training, nurse aide fundamentals, first aid, Stop the Bleed and ServSafe food-handler certification.
"These real qualifications prepare our students for immediate success in the workforce," Woods said, outlining middle school career labs and high school pathways that include internships and hands-on training.
The board also recognized Sandra Reynolds, the district’s chief information officer, who was named Northeast Region Technology Director of the Year by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction’s Office of Digital Teaching and Learning. A presenter said Reynolds will be a finalist for the state Technology Director of the Year award and will be formally recognized March 4 in Raleigh. Reynolds came forward to accept the recognition and the board and staff applauded her work connecting technology and instruction.
During the meeting the board approved a revision to the agenda to add junior board member participation under public comments and to add a capital outlay project to the consent agenda. The consent agenda was later approved by voice vote.
Board members praised recent staff-led professional development such as TechFest and thanked maintenance and support staff for an emergency boiler repair at Central Elementary. The meeting closed with announcements about upcoming community events including a March 6 Currituck Education Foundation fundraiser and the April 25 ribbon-cutting for the new Tolls Creek Elementary.
