Committee Approves Fleet Purchase; Staff Says 10‑Year Electrification Plan Coming

The Administration and Public Works Committee approved Item A3 on Feb. 23, authorizing the purchase of four pieces of fleet equipment for the forestry division from Southern Ford and Russo Power.
Council member Nussbaum asked whether the F‑250 models being purchased are available as hybrids or EVs. Sean Cholick, facilities and fleet manager, said staff are investigating plug‑in retrofit kits and monitoring Ford’s product plans for future hybrid or electric pickup options. “We did get my team to start looking at the plug‑in option,” Cholick said, adding the city has drafted a near‑complete 10‑year plan to guide electrification and replacement schedules and will share it with council when finalized.
Cholick noted that some electric pickup models have disappeared from the market and staff will check with Ford about upcoming models; he also said the city may retrofit existing and newly purchased vehicles when feasible. Council members asked staff to prioritize buying EV or hybrid versions when they become practical alternatives and requested the 10‑year plan to inform procurement and budgeting.
The approved purchase moves forward routine fleet replacements while the city refines its electrification strategy and cost projections.
