Charlie Morrison was appointed chair of the Northfield Select Board at the board’s annual organizational meeting, and the board approved a slate of subcommittee assignments, a regular meeting calendar and designated official newspapers and websites.
The board opened the organizational portion of the meeting with nominations. An unidentified board member nominated Charlie Morrison for chair; another board member seconded the nomination and the board appointed Morrison by voice vote (‘Charlie Morris is the new chairperson’). The board then nominated Mary (transcript shows variants 'Mary Sherhan' and 'Mary Sherrock') as vice chair and approved that nomination by voice vote with no objections.
Board members reviewed and confirmed subcommittee assignments for the coming year, including budget and finance; economic development; highway planning and project oversight; labor agreement bargaining; policy review; public safety; town buildings; water/wastewater and utilities; and the electric utility commission. An unidentified member moved to approve the assignments and, after a second, the board approved the reassignments by voice vote with no objections.
The board also approved the regular meeting calendar (noting the removal of Dec. 23 and a scheduling change for Nov. 10 due to Veterans Day) and formally designated the town website and listed local newspapers as the official outlets for notices and postings. All procedural items were adopted by voice vote with no recorded objections.
The board did not record roll-call tallies in the meeting transcript; motions were adopted by voice vote with no members recorded as objecting. The board indicated staff will continue to refine committee membership and that subcommittees are public meetings that any member may attend.
The organizational session closed after the procedural business, and the board moved on to public participation and committee presentations.
